Meet Our Adoptable Animals

Meet CoCo Pebbles, aka CoCo, a 9-year-old spayed & vaccinated Poodle/Shi Tzu/Terrier mix.

CoCo came to BAARX in February 2023 from the Winnemucca Animal Control facility.

CoCo had been in the same home as an ONLY dog with an elderly single man since she was an 8-week-old puppy. When he was no longer able to care for her, the family had no choice but to surrender her.

During CoCo’s time at AC, she was not able to be leashed or picked up without her trying to bite, but she would jump into people’s laps for attention at her own will. After getting CoCo home and observing her here, we believe that her behavior was a combination of spoiled dog syndrome & fear aggravated by kennel stress syndrome while in the animal control facility.

CoCo’s go-to behavior when she is scared or simply doesn’t want to do something is to get snappy, but I’ve found if you talk gently to her and go SLOW with her, she does much better. Within a couple days of having her with us, I was able to put a collar on her, pick her up and have her walk on a leash ~ everything that you could NOT do with her when she was at AC! CoCo still has her quirks ~ she doesn’t like you to grab her collar, but if you go slow, talk to her and do so gently, she is fine. CoCo had always been an ONLY dog, so when she first came here, she did not like any of the other dogs and would lash out at them if they invaded her space or tried to get attention while she was getting attention. She is now doing much better with them and only occasionally lashes out, but we would recommend that she be an only dog, or *possibly* in a home with another dog of her size and a non-dominant disposition.

CoCo does NOT like to go to the vet and can be an absolute demon while there!! For everyone’s safety, we do recommend she be muzzled for vet visits, or possibly given something prescribed by a veterinarian to help her relax and make the visit less stressful for everyone. CoCo is also not a fan of being groomed, but with her coat type, she does require regular grooming. She is mostly good for having her body done but needs to be muzzled to have her butt done and her head/face. She will not allow clippers near her face, so it must be scissored as much as possible. Again, something prescribed by a veterinarian to help her relax may be beneficial for grooming sessions.

CoCo does NOT like cats (other small animals/chickens would also likely be a no) and would need to be in a home where she will NOT be around children, especially littles!

All that being said, CoCo is a very loving little lady who loves to snuggle and would like nothing more than to be someone’s lap dog and best friend ~ she just needs someone who understands her quirks and who is willing to work with her in a slow and gentle manner!

CoCo is housetrained, although she does occasionally “mark” in my house due to the other dogs being here, and she sleeps in her crate at night but would LOVE to share your bed with you!!

Due to CoCo’s quirks, anyone interested in adopting or fostering CoCo will be required to sign an additional addendum stating that they are aware of CoCo’s quirks. Anyone interested in adopting CoCo will need to foster her for 30 days before making the adoption official in order to help ensure that CoCo is a good fit for your home and family.

CoCo’s adoption fee is $125.00
